Bad week

I got nothing done on my garden this week. Had a car accident (no one was hurt but my poor baby car) and then I slipped in some water and fell flat on my back. Lots of pain equals no actual garden time.

BUT, I was not a slacker. I did some research and figured out that I should have done more research before starting some seeds. What can I say, I am very excited about growing stuff.

I realized that my dragon fruit plant is actually a cactus.... re-thinking about putting this directly into my Zen-veggie-garden. I do however have a great pot for it. SO... in the pot it will go once it gets a little bigger than it is now, which is about a centimeter tall. It will need a support, so I will have to look around for something suitable. My hubby has kindly put up some metal frames and chicken wire to hold up my passion flower vine. :( Yeah...chicken wire.... great. But at least he's being helpful.) Let me try to find something better before my veggies get the chicken wire too. I'm thinking a wood trellis would be nicer and more earth-friendly.

I have also enjoyed banana milkshakes, banana muffins and banana pancakes this week courtesy of the wind storm a couple weeks back knocking down some banana trees.  The rest sadly will be going into the composter.

It's my first composter. I'll tell you how that goes in a couple of months. Hopefully I will have some good compost by then. Hubby also set up the composter. The lid is broken. He says he's going to go exchange the lid out. Hopefully this week.

My purple potato still has not grown eyes in the fridge. Yes, it's purple. I figure if your going to grow some potatoes, they may as well be interesting. My oldest kid is looking forward to purple mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. I doubt MY potatoes will be ready by then, especially at this pace. But the farmers market has them and they are the same price as regular creamer potatoes, so why not? My turkey will be from a real farm. Score! Well hopefully, apparently you cannot pre-order so first availability and I will be there as soon as the darn store opens the week before Thanksgiving.... maybe earlier.... can I freeze it and thaw it later? hmmm.... fresh would be better though.

Anyway, back to the veggies. I'm hungry and food tangents will happen.
I will try to snap some "before" photos and post them before I finish setting up the beds. The heat this past week has been a bit much for some of the seedlings. I have them in pots exactly where I want them to grow in the plant bed. Interestingly, the cucumber seeds I saved from a real cucumber are growing better than the ones I bought from the nursery.
I can't tell on the pumpkin seeds because I mixed them together. I will either get small or large pumpkins. Goddess will tell! Either way, pumpkin pie!!!
